This versatile device features a built in motion sensor; simply perch the Light Owl on the floor near your bed and it will light up the area around you when you get up. And because it is battery powered, you can travel with it to use as a guide in dark unfamiliar hotel rooms. Set the automatic shut-off timer to one of three different settings (20, 60, or 90 seconds), or simply set it for continuous light. Built in dimmer function allows you to control the light intensity.

    Pros

    • Lightweight
    • Small
    • Very adjustable

    Cons

    • Hard to read controls
    • Hard to read instructions

    Best Uses

    • As a closet light
    • As an emergency light
    • As a nightlight

I am frequently up in the middle of the night, and hate turning on the 'real' light as I don't want to disturb my husband. On the other hand, I don't want to injure myself, or my dogs, as I negotiate a dark room. This lamp should alleviate that problem.

I had quite a few questions unanswered by the catalog description, so I'll try to be as specific as possible. It is quite small, uses 4 AAA batteries, and has dials and switches to: 1) control the sensitivity to dark/light, 2) control brightness of the light, 3) turn it on/off, 4) set a timer for how long the light stays on. These are all things that I am quite pleased with.

The big problem were the instructions. This is a tissue thin piece of paper that got stuck in the box as I pulled out the bubble-wrapped light. Don't try to figure out this light without them! :) The second problem: teeny-tiny type and middle-aged eyes. The third problem: finding the dials and reading the switches on the bottom of the light.

Fortunately, my 15 year old daughter came home and set the light up for me. Sigh. It is irritating to not be able to use the lamp without someone's younger eyes to set the adjustable switches.

That said, the lamp is a great size, and fits in the palm of my hand well. The hook on the back is large, as is the opening for it. It will hang from a variety of places. I am pleased that it will be easy to change the settings if I need an emergency light or simply a portable, bright light in a small spot.
